Latest Developments on 20/10 Rostering & EMA/LHR Basing Proposals

Dear Members,

This update provides an overview of recent developments, including BALPA’s engagement with One Air, upcoming meetings, the next phase of member input, and the company’s latest communication to the pilot group.

BALPA’s Engagement With One Air

Following the survey and the concerns you raised, BALPA formally contacted One Air to outline the key issues regarding the proposed 20/10 roster pattern and the EMA/LHR basing changes.

We are pleased to report that One Air has responded positively. They have agreed to an initial factfinding and engagement meeting, which will take place on 2 April at their head office.

Attending on your behalf will be:

·                  BALPA National Officer

·                  BALPA Scheduling Specialist

This meeting will allow us to:

·                  Hear One Air’s position in full,

·                  Understand the operational reasoning behind their proposals,

·                  Seek clarity on areas where detail has been lacking, and

·                  Present your feedback and concerns in a structured and evidenced way.

This is a significant and constructive next step, and we will continue to approach this collaboratively while ensuring your views are clearly represented.

Additional Member Survey – Gathering Further Context

To ensure we enter the meeting fully informed, please see a survey at the base of this section to have your say.

This survey will help us understand:

·                  How your current working pattern operates in practice,

·                  How the proposed 20/10 pattern would affect you personally,

·                  Any wellbeing, fatigue, basing or commuting issues not captured previously, and

·                  Any constructive ideas or alternative roster patterns you feel could support One Air’s operational aims.

·

Your responses will directly shape the points BALPA raises in the meeting

What Happens After the Meeting

Once the meeting has taken place, BALPA will provide members with a full update, including:

·                  A clear summary of the discussion,

·                  Any commitments, clarifications or further detail provided by One Air,

·                  The next steps the company intends to take, and

·                  Any support or actions that BALPA will provide in response.

·

Throughout this process, BALPA will continue to support and represent members collectively, ensuring your voice remains at the centre of the discussion as the situation develops.

One Air’s Latest Communication to Crew

One Air’s most recent communication to flight crew regarding 20/10 proposals acknowledged that pilots are seeking:

·                  More engagement,

·                  Clearer communication, and

·                  Greater transparency around the rationale for the 20/10 proposal

·

The company has indicated it plans to hold further engagement opportunities and Q&A sessions, and confirmed that April rosters will not be based on 20/10 unless a pilot has already volunteered to trial the pattern.

However, this update also made reference to the Pilot Focus Group, which One Air has positioned as a channel through which feedback has been received.

BALPA Member Concerns About the Pilot Focus Group

Initial conversations with BALPA members have shown surprise and concern regarding this Focus Group, specifically:

·                  How the group was formed,

·                  How individuals were selected,

·                  What role the group is expected to play in representing pilot concerns, and

·                  How (or if) feedback mechanisms will operate to report both ways to the wider pilot community.

·

Members have fed back that they were unaware of such a group being established, or how it relates to broader workforce engagement.

Assuming our followup survey reflects these concerns, BALPA will raise this point directly during the April meeting. Transparency and fair representation are important foundations when discussing changes of this scale.

Communication to Non-Members

Pilots who are not currently BALPA members but who expressed interest through the previous survey have now received a separate communication. This included:

·                  Acknowledgment of their participation,

·                  A high-level overview of the key themes, and

·                  An invitation to join BALPA so they can receive full updates like this one.

·

Membership growth strengthens the collective voice, and your engagement has already demonstrated to colleagues the value of being part of BALPA when workplace issues arise.

Thank You

Thank you once again for your strong participation and feedback. It has been instrumental in shaping our approach and ensuring that the upcoming discussions reflect your collective concerns.

BALPA will continue to keep you updated throughout this process. In the meantime, if you have any further thoughts or questions, please feel free to get in touch.
